Action Arts League

Action Arts League develops art to strengthen communities and inspire individuals to explore their inner artists through participatory events, educational programs, and public-private partnerships. Action Arts League, Inc. is a New York City based 501(c)(3) arts organization that sprung from the Costume Network community arts project ongoing since 1999. Action Arts League has a progressive, business-minded leadership team and an extensive creative resources network capable of executing ambitious and colorful projects.

The Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation

The Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation (GIPEC) is responsible for the planning, redevelopment and ongoing operations for 150 acres of Governors Island. The National Park Service owns and operates an additional 22 acres of the island. A partnership of New York City and New York State, GIPEC seeks to bring Governors Island back to life, making this island at the center of New York Harbor a destination with great public open space, as well as future education, not for profit and commercial facilities.

The National Park Service (responsible for 22 acres of Governors Island including Castle Williams and Fort Jay) preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC)

For 35 years, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) has been the leading arts presenter, advocate, and service provider to artists and arts groups throughout Lower Manhattan. LMCC was founded by David Rockefeller and other business and civic leaders in 1973 and was housed in the World Trade Center until 9/11. The Council, which was created shortly after the Twin Towers were built, was established to humanize the architecture of the World Trade Center Plaza. LMCC grew as downtown grew and today we are Manhattan’s largest and farthest-reaching arts council, bringing diverse cultural experiences to new audiences in unexpected ways and serving as a gateway to culture, information, and resources across the entire borough.

The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs

The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs is dedicated to supporting and strengthening New York City’s vibrant cultural life. Among our primary missions is to ensure adequate public funding for non-profit cultural organizations, both large and small, throughout the five boroughs.

DCLA also works to promote and advocate for quality arts programming and to articulate the contribution made by the cultural community to the City’s economic vitality. The Department represents and serves non-profit cultural organizations involved in the visual, literary and performing arts; public-oriented science and humanities institutions including zoos, botanical gardens and historic and preservation societies; and creative artists at all skill levels who live and work within the City’s five boroughs.

New York State Council on the Arts

The New York State Council on the Arts is dedicated to preserving and expanding the rich and diverse cultural resources that are and will become the heritage of New York’s citizens. The Council believes in artistic excellence and the creative freedom of artists without censure, and the rights of all New Yorkers to access and experience the power of the arts and culture, and the vital contribution the arts make to the quality of life in New York communities. The Black Rock Arts Foundation

The Black Rock Arts Foundation (BRAF) emerged in 2001 as a small but ambitious effort to enrich civic life through art. Its growth since then reflects a spreading awareness of the benefits community-based art projects can bring to a broader society, despite ? or even because of ? their origins outside the traditional models and institutions associated with artistic expression. Art can thrive outside the walls of museums and galleries, in public places that encourage direct involvement with people who encounter it. BRAF consistently seeks to include an expanding universe of people to participate in creation, presentation, and experience of art.

The Educational Alliance Art School

The Educational Alliance Art School provides art instruction and enrichment in a nurturing environment for artists of all levels of their creative journey. Classes attract adults, teenagers and kids from all over the city. The Art School is part of The Educational Alliance downtown community center on the Lower East Side. Originally founded as a settlement house to help Eastern European Jews settle into American society we now have over 49 programs throughout the Lower East Side serving the diverse communities that makes up New York City, providing educational, recreational and social services that a community needs to thrive.

The Waterfront Alliance

The Waterfront Alliance works to transform the New York and New Jersey Harbor and Waterways to make them clean and accessible, a vibrant place to play, learn and work, with great parks, great jobs and great transportation for all. The organization was founded as a project of the Municipal Art Society of New York in 2000 and spun off as an independent 501(c)(3) organization in 2007. The staff has grown from two to six (including an intern) and the Board of Trustees continues to develop into a strong and diverse team.

Governors Island Alliance

The Governors Island Alliance is a coalition of organizations and individuals working to celebrate the Island’s rich history, create memorable parks and public spaces and ensure appropriate reuse of the Island and its historic structures. Since 1995, the members of the Governors Island Alliance civic coalition have worked collaboratively to return the Island to its rightful owners – the people of New York .

The Alliance is committed to working with GIPEC, the National Park Service and our elected officials to ensure that the final plans and redevelopment proposals set public access, park programming, and historic preservation as primary goals – and that there is funding to make these plans happen. During this interim period, we will help enliven the Island with free public programs, including arts, music and maritime educational opportunities for New Yorkers and visitors alike.
