Pavilion competition registration deadline extended to April 15
Studies have shown that deadlines are not good for your health. They keep you up at night. To help you hold on to [...]

Please Help Us Take Apart FIGMENT Minigolf and Sculpture Garden
It’s been a great summer for FIGMENT on Governors Island, with nearly 25,000 people coming out for the FIGMENT weekend in June, and perhaps as many as 200,000 visiting FIGMENT Terrace, playing minigolf and interacting with the sculpture garden over the summer… Now it’s time to put all our toys away… and begin dreaming up ways to make FIGMENT 2011 even bigger and better!
Take Home a Piece of the Living Pavilion!
The Living Pavilion has had a great summer… but now it’s time to take it apart. We will begin disassembling the Living Pavilion on Saturday Oct. 2, and will continue on Sunday Oct. 3. Please come by, lend a hand in taking apart the pavilion, and take a few crates home with you!
Art and Populism
In Friday?s Weekend section of The New York Times, Edward Rothstein wrote a fairly evenhanded story about Governors Island as ?A Playground for the Arts.” As a follow-up, Ken Johnson contributed a dismissive and offensive post on the Times blog. In his critique, Johnson manages to miss the point entirely. The art on Governors Island isn?t for him. This is art for the rest of us.
Upcoming FIGMENT Events

Hello everyone! We hope you’re enjoying your post-FIGMENT summer! Even though FIGMENT 2011 is eleven months away, there are still a number of FIGMENT-related events going on! For starters, our summer-long installations on Governors Island?the FIGMENT Sculpture Garden, Minigolf Course, and the Living Pavilion?are open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday through October 3. So come out to the island and have another look, and please consider volunteering to help at the minigolf course!
Thank you everyone!
Thanks to everyone who made FIGMENT such an amazing success… to all of our artists, team members, volunteers, and participants who came out in Boston and New York and made FIGMENT happen! We had nearly 25,000 participants in New York from June 11-13, interacting with 400 art projects, and approximately 10,000 participants in Boston interacting with nearly 100 art projects! Please help us balance our books for 2010 and plan for the future!
The FIGMENT Update (by David Koren)
When our group got together to start FIGMENT in 2007, we never had any idea that it could ever grow this much, this fast. In 2010, our three-day NYC event had nearly 25,000 participants, and our Boston event, just in its first year, had something like 10,000 participants. It’s really amazing to see how quickly [...]

Call for Proposals: FIGMENT Minigolf
Your challenge is to design and construct a single hole for this mini golf course, following the theme. We intend to interpret our theme very loosely, and are seeking 18 holes that interpret this theme with as much diversity of perspective as possible. You can interpret the theme metaphorically, literally, historically, or with as much poetic license as you like. Designs will be selected on creativity, structural integrity, playability, feasibility, adherence to theme, and budget.
